NOTE: Obit incorrectly lists James' marriage as 1877, should be 1867.

James Allison, Aged 80, War Veteran, Is Dead

Following a several weeks' illness, James Allison, aged 80, a veteran of the Civil war, died at his home, corner Third street and Indiana avenue, at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. He was a life-long resident of Hancock county, having been born near Chester on September 10, 1841. He served with the Union forces throughout the Civil war. He was married to Miss Nancy L. Pugh on November 28, 1877. Mr. Allison was a member of the First Presbyterian church. Besides his wife, he leaves the following children: Mrs. Hooker W. Allison of the Allison school house district; Mrs. J.S.D. Mercer, wife of Sheriff Mercer, of New Cumberland, and Mrs. Luther Allison of Chester. Funeral services will be conducted at the late home at 1:30 o'clock Friday afternoon, with Rev. Hugh Willard Hanna, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, officiating. Burial will be made in Locust Hill cemetery. The services will be in charge of Jesse Burge Post No. 22, Veterans of Foreign Wars, who will furnish a firing squad and an honor guard. Three volleys of shots will be fired over the grave at the cemetery and taps will be sounded. A special meeting of the post will be held at headquarters in the First National Bank building this evening for the purpose of making arrangements for the funeral services.
