Joyce Allen completed her earthly journey August 1, 2011, and through her Christian faith has since traveled to her heavenly home.
Born September 15, 1920 in rural Fannin County to tenant farmers C.C. and Grace (Pyrtle) Malone, the first of five children. Farm life was filled with hardships, adventure, and love, molding Joyce into the determined and strong individual that she would become. Following her childhood years, centered around the Bartley Woods community, the family moved to Vernon, Texas where Joyce finished high school and began her education in nursing.
Trained at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Joyce would become an RN, enlist in the Army, and rise to the rank of 1st Lieutenant, serving in Germany at the end of WWII. Following the war's end, she would soon marry Raymon Perry Allen of Randolph, her husband of sixty years. Together, they attended East Texas State Teacher's College, raised twin sons, Perry Wayne and Jerry Lane, and taught in Texas schools for over thirty-five years.
Raised on a farm during the great depression, her values were established early. A strong faith and purpose of task have directed her life; her dedication and devotion to family and friends have been evidenced throughout. In addition, Mrs. Allen has provided education and direction to elementary students throughout the North Texas area, offering the same love and devotion that have framed her life.
Following retirement from the Iowa Park Independent school district, Joyce and her husband Perry moved to Sherman, making many new friends and enjoying frequent trips to Orlando, Florida to visit the family and Branson, Missouri to enjoy the entertainment that they both loved so much. After her husband's death her life would continue to revolve around family and friends. Joyce lived her Christian faith and will be dearly missed by family, friends, and all who were influenced by this strong and beautiful person, including the residents of The Willows and the Super Seniors at Grace United Methodist Church in Sherman.
Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her son Jerry Lane and her husband Raymon Perry, her two sisters Maedell Brown and Clara Reeves, and her brother Junior Malone.
Remaining to cherish memories and continue her loving way of life are her son Perry and wife Dawn of Orlando, Florida, two granddaughters, Lauren Germanos and husband Nolan, and Hannah Allen also of Orlando, a great granddaughter, Piper and great grandson, Colton of Orlando, brother Dr. Farris Douglas Malone and wife Betty of Richardson, numerous nieces and nephews, and dearly loved neighbors and friends in and around Sherman, Texas.
Funeral services were held at the Dannel Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Keith Head of First United Methodist Church of Terrell, Texas officiating; followed by interment at Cedarlawn Memorial Park where military honors were afforded.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the Home Hospice of Grayson County.
