James Lee Long died at 9:25 a.m. Tuesday, September 14, 1999, at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal, Illinois.
Mr. Long was born August 18, 1909, in Ridge Farm, Illinois, a son of Winfield H. and Blanche B. Baldwin Long. He married Mary Alice Orr on October 16, 1932, in Danville, Illinois. She survives.
Other survivors include one daughter, Molly (Charles) Seibold,o ne grandson, John C. Seibold, two granddaughters, Amy E. Seibold and Marne A. Babcock and one brother, Dale H. Long.
His parents and two sons preceded him in death.
Mr. Long was reared on a farm along the Indiana-Illinois state line in Vermilion County. He graduated from the College of Agriculture at the University of Illinois in 1930.
He was a member of the livestock judging team, assistant farm adviser and county 4-H leader in Vermilion County from 1930 to 1933, and a farm mortgage field representative for Aetna Life Insurance Co. and Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., retiring in 1974.
In World War II, he was a combat infantry officer in the 3rd Army in the European Theater. After the fighting, he was transferred into military government in northern Bavaria. He remained active in the Army Reserves and retired several years ago as a lieutenant colonel of infantry.
In the First Presbyterian Church of Normal, he was a church school teacher, served as an elder and was an officer of presbytery. He served as a commissioner to the Synod of Illinois and he attended the General Assembly in 1970.
He was president of Bloomington Golden K Kiwanis Club in 1992-1993, and he attended several men's coffee groups.
Mr. Long's hobbies were church activities, community work and traveling.
