He served first in the US Marines & 2nd the US Navy during WWII. He was a member of the Navy force during the invasion of Okinawa in WWII. He served on board a Liberty ship. During the invasion of Okinawa he was exposed to enemy fire throughout the period of time the Marines and Army personnel were being ashore. He was operator of a troop landing craft salvage craft. He and his crew would recover stuck or damaged landing craft from the beach area and return them to a repair station and or assist landing craft as needed. He served in the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corp) before war.

He died in the VA Hospital in Shreveport,La. He suffered from Diabetes mos of his adult life.
