J. Fred Flook, 67, Farm Leader for Many Years, Dies
J. Fred Flook, a well-known former resident and agricultural leader in El Paso county, died suddenly in Portland, Ore., Tuesday evening. Mr. Flook, 67, had been living in Portland for about the past 10 years. His death was said to be due to a stroke. During the 1920's Flook was owner and operator of a ranch at Ellicott, Colo. During that time he was one of the organizers and first president of the El Paso County Farm bureau. He helped organize the County Farmers Luncheon Club, and was one of the founders of the Colorado Pure Seed show which, for many years, was held in this city, and is now in Denver. He managed the show here one year. Beginning in 1935, following his move into Colorado Springs upon the sale of his ranch, Flook was superintendent of the Resettlement Administration project of forestry and land improvement and recreational development in the Manitou Park area near Woodland Park. This project has since been turned over to the Forestry service. He was also at one time engaged in the real estate and automobile insurance business here. He was at all times active in agricultural extension programs in the region.
After his move to Oregon, Flook engaged in defense work there during the war. He was born in Olathe, Kan., and spent his youth and early manhood there. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Monday with Dr. W. G. Schaefer, officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Potts, and a granddaughter, Linda, all of Portland, and a nephew, Lester Flook, Olathe, Kan.
