|Birth: ||Dec. 9, 1832|
|Death: ||Apr. 24, 1899|
Corporal, CO H, 11th Kansas Cavalry.
Daniel's first wife was Carolina(e) and the 1860 census has them living in Wabaunsee, Kansas Territory. Living with them is Henry Hiatt, 1 year old and born in Kansas. Also living with them is Dana B. Foss, 6 year old "male" and born in Massachusetts. In the 1865 Kansas census Dana is listed as Daniel's "step-daughter", so Caroline must have been married to a Foss previous to marrying Daniel. Henry is not listed in this census so apparently he died between 1860 and 1865. The 1870 Census has Daniel and Caroline living in Delaware, Wyandotte, Kansas with Dana and Prentice. Dana has taken the last name Hiatt and listed as "male". Prentice is 6 months old and born in Kansas. The 1875 Kansas Census only lists Daniel and Prentice. It would seem that Daniel is a widower and Dana has moved on. The 1880 census Daniel and Margaret have married and living with them are Prentiss and Henry H. Hiatt, age 7 months. In all of the census sheets Daniel has been given a number of occupations, Farmer, RR Tie Contractor, Soldier, Lawyer.
