George was the son of William and Annie Bultmann. He had two stepsisters, Carolina and Frieda. He married Margaret Kennedy of Whitestone, and they had four daughters--Margaret, Mary, Elizabeth, and Madeline.

On his death, he was recognized by the Assembly of the State of New York: "Comrade George Bultmann, Camp No. 29, Whitestone, L. I., late Quartermaster Sergeant (active list), 2d Bat'l Engineers, died September 6, 1914, in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Washington, D. C.; buried at Flushing, L. I., with full military honors in St. Mary's Cemetery; funeral services conducted by W. S. Overton Camp No. 29, and a firing squad furnished from Fort Totten, N. Y."
