Draper, UT - Edward John Jensen, 77, passed away August 12, 2012 after a long and valiant struggle with health issues during the later years of his life. He was born in Salt Lake City on May 28, 1935 to Alvin M. Jensen and Marie Frances Gozdowski.
He served four years in the Air Force during which time he met his sweetheart, Barbara (Bobbie) Blakely and they were married on January 5, 1957 and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on June 18, 1958. In 1958 they moved to California Bay Area where he worked for Hewlett Packard, Stanford University and The Golden Tee Miniature Golf Course and Aloha Roller Palace and Thermal Service. He retired from Regional Medical Center of San Jose (formerly Alexian Brothers Hospital) as an HVAC Technician.
Ed enjoyed many years of service in Scouting and Explorer programs in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had many church callings, which included serving in a Bishopric in San Jose and was ward mission leader in Draper between serving two full time missions with his wife to the Oklahoma Tulsa Mission in 2002-2003 as well as a one year mission in the Salt Lake City South Mission in 2010-2011. Ed enjoyed telling stories, reciting poetry and playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren and taking drives in his 1930 Model A Ford. He also enjoyed long distance bike riding. He was a master of many trades including auto mechanics, electrician and plumber. He shared these and other skills in many hours of service to others. He spent over 100 hours to clean up and restore water and electrical services to homes after the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake in the Santa Cruz Mountains of California.
Ed is preceded in death by his parents and his son, Brian. He is survived by his wife Barbara, his daughter Lisa; three grandchildren, Lindsey (George) Nijmeh, Aaron (Laura) Jensen and Andrew Jensen Carver; three great grandchildren, Rachel, Kalila and Nikolas and two brothers, Don (Myrna - deceased) Jensen and Wayne (Gay) Jensen.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Mountain Point 4th Ward, 573 E. 13800 South in Draper. Friends may visit with the family on Friday, August 17, 2012 from 7- 9 p.m. at the church and again from 9:30 -10:30 a.m. just prior to the service.
