Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 30 in Haxtun.
Burial was in Holyoke Memorial Park.
Mrs. Cheney was born on June 15, 1913 to Leonard LeRoy and Helen Louise Evans Hill in Cortland, Neb. On March 19, 1917 she moved to Colorado with her family to a farm southeast of Haxtun in the Highland Center Community. She attended grade school and two years of high school at Highland Center before enrolling at Haxtun High School her junior year.
On Jan. 15, 1934 she married Earl K. Cheney at the Presbyterian Church in Sterling. They made their home in Paoli where Earl operated an independent agency until 1945. The couple then moved to Fleming and operated Earl Cheney Ford Motors until 1956 when they moved the business to Haxtun. They remained in the automotive business in Haxtun where Laura served as bookkeeper until retirement. The business was sold to Leon Atkins in 1971.
She was a member of the United methodist Church of Haxtun, Frida Wilson Chapter No.136 Order of Eastern Star and theTrailblazers Car Club of Sidney, Neb. She is survived by a daughter, Joan Salvador and husband Frank of Holyoke; brother, Milton W. Hill and wife Margaret of San Angelo, Texas; sisters, Marjorie Kotch and husband Harry of Ovid and Mildred McConnell of Haxtun; sister-in-law, Faye Hill of Montrose; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Earl on Feb. 9, 1985 and brothers, Don and Dean Hill.
