Ratliff to Be 95 Years Old Sunday

“Grandpaw” Ratliff, who lives with Dorsie Chapman on a farm on Albany R.F.D. No. 3, four miles south of Albany, will be 95 years old Sunday, Aug 5. He is a Civil war veteran and is said to be still active in body and in mind. His is said to have an interesting history.

Shadrick Ratliff, Civil War Veteran, Dies

Shadrick Ratliff, 95, born in Virginia on August 4, 1844, died at his home on Albany R.F.D No. 3 Sunday, Jan. 7. He had spent his life in Virginia, Missouri, Arkansas and Colorado before coming to Oregon 20 years ago. He had spent his active life as a farmer. He was married Feb. 3, 1870 at Galatan, Mo., to Malinda McCulley, who died in 1937. He is survived by; four sons, Henry of Mabton, Wash., William of Burbank, Cal., Charles of Pueblo, Colo. And George Ratliff of Weston, Ore.; a daughter, Mrs. Frances Bilby of Bowden, Okla; and a grandson, W.D. Chapman of Albany R.F.D. No 3. Mr. Ratliff had the distinction of being a Confederate veteran of the Civil War, serving under General Morgan. Funeral services will be held from the Fortmiller funeral home at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. p. Interment will be made in the St. Johns cemetery.
