As “Dock Briant”, he enlisted at Louisiana, MO, on 25 Aug 1864 to serve three years. He gave his age as 18, his occupation as farmer, and his birthplace as Pike County, MO. He mustered out on 21 Feb 1866 at Huntsville, AL.

None of his Civil War records show his name as “Dock Bryant”. However, other records show that he used the “Bryant” spelling both before and after his service. On his marriage record (to Catherine Gibb in 1869), his name is recorded as “Doctor Bryant”. On other records, his first name is recorded as “Doc”.
