Funeral services will be at 2p.m. Saturday, April 20,1974 at the Hartford Methodist Church for Carl W. Schlieman, 90, Salem, who died Wednesday, April 17, at Colonial Manors a Salem nursing home. Rev. Jack Berg, Officiating. Organist, Mrs. Roy Brown, Soloist, Arvid Jordan. Prayer service will be at 7 P.M. Friday, April 19, at the Miller Funeral Home. Casket bearers: Curtis Phillips, Gary Eggers, Capt. Wayne Anderson, Donald Schliemann, Arthur Westendorf and Richard Huse. Interment will be in the Hartford Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Schliemann was born to John and Christina Schliemann at Grand Junction, Iowa on May 16, 1883. He grew to manhood in that area and on July 5, 1907 was united in marriage to Lulu B. Irish. In March 1909, they moved to the Hartford vicinity where he farmed for many years, later moving into Hartford where he worked at various jobs; he worked for a time at McKennan Hospital, several summers as a handy man at the Girl Scout Camp at Wall Lake, at a local gas station, a recreation parlor and at the Farmers Elevator. He became president of the Colonial Manors in November of 1968. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1960 and by five sisters and two brothers.

Left to mourn his passing are seven daughters: Mrs. Philip (Iva) Huse, of Hartford, Mrs. Violet Duimstra of Colton, Mrs. George (Inda) Phillips of Gustine, California, Mrs. Howard (Helen) Rhodes of Milwaukee, Oregon, Mrs. Earl (Gertrude) Westendorf and Mrs. Carroll (Hope) Anderson both of Sioux Falls; two sons: Malcom and Carl Leonard of Sioux Falls; One brother: John of Colton; thirty-eight grandchildren; eighty-five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson and many nieces and nephews.
