Death: Dec. 15, 1985

Milton Reid was born on a farm near Alta Vista, Kansas, October 26, 1919. His parents were John and Estella (Goss) Reid. He attended a rural school for the first eight grades, then rode his horse to Alta Vista for his high school education. Following graduation he became a professional cheese maker working at a cheese factory in Dwight, Kansas.

He joined the United States Army Air Corps in February 1942 and met LaVona Stalcup in May of that same year. Two years later following an Air Corps Mechanics School in Englewood, California, they renewed their friendship and
were married in Wichita, Kansas on January 18, 1944. The early part of their marriage was spent in South Carolina where Milton was a crew chief for B-25 bombers at the
Greenville Air Base. At the close of WWII they returned to Yates Center, Kansas where both worked at rebuilding and operating the cheese factory. Then they came to Oregon, Missouri where Milton learned the grocery business from LaVona's Uncle Bill Worley, a merchant of many years. In July 1947, they purchased a small grocery store in Rock Port and operated Reid's Market until December 1949.

Their first child. Randall R. (Randy) Reid was born February 6, 1950 in Maryville, Mo. At this time, Milton entered the insurance business in St. Joseph working as a representative for Bankers Life and Casualty Co. Then he went with W. Clement Stone's Combined insurance Co. of Chicago for about one year before Banker' Life enticed him back into their company as a supervisor with an office in Jefferson City.

The Reid's lived in Columbia, Fort Worth, and Kansas City while he worked for Banker's Life for ten years all together. During their years in Kansas City, they became parents of their second child, a daughter, Jacque Gayle
on September 5, 1951. In 1959 he joined State Farm Insurance Company and was honored in 1984 for twenty five years with that company.

Milton has membership in the Booster Club, American Legion Post No. 49, and United Methodist Church, all of Rock Port, Mo. and the Tarkio College Boosters Club. On Sunday evening, December 15th, Milton thoroughly enjoyed portraying Santa Claus after the Church fellowship dinner. He took special gifts for the children to add to the regular "Santa" sack and was in jovial spirits after a fun evening. He suffered a heart attack shortly after getting home and was taken to the Fairfax Hospital where he passed away.

He is survived by his wife, LaVona, Rock Port, Missouri, son Randy, Wichita, Kansas, daughter Jacque Gayle and son-in-law Gary Gebhards, grandchildren, Tad, Tyler and Tawni Gebhards, all of Rock Port, mother-in-law, Mrs. Effie Stalcup, Oregon, Missouri, a brother Clayton Reid, Dwight, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents.
