Steve L. Kierce, 65, of Lee County, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013 at the Willson Hospice House.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at Mathews Funeral Home in Albany with the Rev. Chip Gresham, Dr. Ronald R. Baxley and Norman Denney officiating.

Interment will be in Crown Hill Cemetery with military honors.

A native of Albany, born to the late James Earl and Velma Ranew Kierce Braswell, Steve had resided in Albany and Lee County all of his life. He was a 1965 graduate of Albany High School and served in the United States Army in Vietnam where he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.

Steve was employed with United Parcel Service for 27 years until his retirement in 2004 and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Steve enjoyed the sport of golf and was a member of Grand Island Country Club.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Vinson Kierce of Lee County; a daughter and her husband, Stephanie and Stephen Sceals of Albany; two sons and their wives, Chris and Stephanie Kierce of Rocky Face and Matthew and Paige Lupton Kierce of Lee County; a sister and her husband, Linda and Norman Denney of Albany; a sister-in-law, Sandra Kierce and a brother-in-law, Lynn Cook, both of Albany; his grandchildren, Mckenzie Kierce, Chipper Kierce, Andrew Sceals, Lane Sceals, James Sceals, Abbigail Kierce and Matthew Kierce Jr.

He was preceded in death by a brother and sister, Travis L. Kierce Sr. and Barbara Cook.

The family received friends Sunday at Mathews Funeral Home.
