For 62 years she directed church children's choirs, girls' choirs, youth choirs and adult choirs. She also worked with vocalists, duets and trios.
She worked for the Northwest Kansas Area Agency on Aging for 23 years as the director of information and referral. She died in Hospice Care on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, at Via Christi, St. Francis Hospital, Wichita.
She was a loving wife and mother and was deeply devoted to her family and church. She greatly loved music and touched the lives of many through her music ministries over the years.
She was a member of Hays United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Esther Circle and Chancel Choir, and she directed United Methodist Women Singers. She was also a member of PEO, BQ Chapter.
Her loving, compassionate presence, wise counsel, creativity and delightful sense of humor will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Survivors include her husband, Garner, of the home; two sons, Barry, of Elkhart, Ind., and Jon, of Wichita; a daughter, Brenda Berg-Morrow and husband Scott, of New York City; three sisters, Avis Curfman, of Wichita, Rhonda Elliott and her husband Gene, of Hutchinson, and Cheryl Lucas and her husband Ben, of Nuevo, Calif.; a stepgranddaughter, Tina Cook, of Elkhart; two stepgreat-grandsons, Rex Hickman and Rayth Yoder, both of Elkhart; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
Visitation with the family will be from 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 30, at Hays Memorial Chapel, Pine Street and 20th.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1, at First United Methodist Church, 305 W. Seventh, Hays, KS 67601.
Graveside services will be held in McPherson City Cemetery, Maxwell and Avenue A, McPherson, at 3:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested for those United Methodist churches which Harriet and her husband served as pastor and wife, or to the charity of your choice.
