From the Manhattan Mercury, August 22, 1963 -- Wichita --
The commander of a Wichita Veterans of Foreign Wars post, Clovis Kenneth Emrich, 37, was found shot to death in a ditch southeast of town late Wednesday.
Sheriff HM Tomlinson said Emrich apparently took his own life. A small caliber rifle with the stock removed was found between his knees. The sheriff said Emrich, commander of the Over There Post, said to be the largest in the VFW, had been despondent over ill health.
