Charles Robert Leap was killed on Leyte Island, P.I., October 23, 1944. He had participated in the campaigns for Kiska and the Marshall Islands as a private first class in the Engineers. Going into the service in March, 1943, Leap, the son of Mr. and Mrs. David Leap, of Lemoore, trained at Fort Ord. He was in the Hanford unit of the National Guard three years prior to joining the regular Army. Leap attended the Hanford Union High School.
Charles was a native of Banning, Riverside County, CA., but spent his boyhood in Kings County area. He was the brother of Mrs. Emma Potter, Raymond and Frank Leap.
