BOSSIER CITY - After extended illness, Theresa M. Piccione passed away Feb. 2, 2012 at Northwest Louisiana War Veterans Home in Bossier City. She was born in Lafayette, Aug. 3, 1928 and baptized at St. John's Cathedral.
Theresa completed registered nurse training at Charity Hospital, New Orleans in 1948. She served three years in the U. S. Air Force Nurse Corps completing flight nurse school, and serving at several stateside bases and Europe. She was honorably discharged as First Lieutenant. Her other education and experience included service with Franciscan Nuns in Baton Rouge and an undergraduate degree in Public Health Nursing at Peabody College, Nashville. She held several nursing positions and completed a career as Public Health nurse, retiring from the Louisiana Public Health System. During her life she participated in numerous religious activities and in civic, social and activist organizations.
Theresa is survived by three brothers, Frank Piccione, Sr. and Peter Piccione, Sr. in Lafayette and Phil Piccione and his wife Jean in San Antonio. She was preceded in death by parents, Sam and Mary Piccione of Lafayette and six other siblings and their spouses. Many surviving nieces and nephews reside in Louisiana, Texas, South Carolina and other states.
In keeping with her Christian beliefs, Theresa supported the LSU-Tulane Willed-Body Program. Her remains will assist the LSU Shreveport Medical School's educational programs.
In addition to prayerful remembrances, the family encourages donations to the two organizations which gave Theresa Piccione such wonderful care in her last months. Their addresses are: The NW La.
