Ben Frank Browning

Ben Frank Browning, 17, of Vaiden and a Carroll County native, died Thursday, July 31, in an auto accident in Vaiden.

Ben, a student and a member of the Vaiden Baptist Church, is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Browning, his sisters, Mrs. Sara M. Johnson of Winona, Mrs. Frances L. Huggins, Mrs. Vera Alice Mitchell of Vaiden, and Mrs. Peggy Jean Carver of Durant, and his brothers, John William Browning of Jackson, Robert Earl Browning of Winona, Billy Wayne Browning of Greenwood and Alan Ray Browning of Vaiden.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 2, at 10 a.m. at the Oliver Chapel. Services were led by the Rev. J. A. Wade and directed by the Oliver Funeral Home. Burial was in the Enon Methodist Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jimmy Browning, Robert Browning, Jr., Vernon Gerrish, Harry Gerrish, Donny Browning, and Edmond Cook.

Vaiden Accident Leaves One Dead, Another Injured

An early morning accident on Hwy. 35 south of Vaiden left one 17 year-old dead and another in serious condition, Thursday, July 31.

Ben Browning, 17, was reported dead on arrival at Tyler-Holmes Hospital in Winona following the accident. Louis Johnson, also 17, was treated for multiple fractures and lacerations before being sent to Baptist Hospital in Jackson.

Johnson was listed in satisfactory condition in the intensive care unit at the Jackson hospital Tuesday morning, officials said.

According to James Gerrish of the Carroll County Sheriff's Department the two Vaiden youths were found by a passing motorist about 6 a.m. Thursday morning, but no time for the accident has been established.

Gerrish said no cause for the accident has been determined.
