James served in the Glider Infantry in WW2 he served Combat duty in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France, Normandy, Belgium, Holland, and Germany. During his Military Service he was awarded the Purple Heart, Oak Leaf Cluster, Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star Medal with 7 stars and a arrowhead and a Good Conduct Medal. He was at the Battle of the Bulge.
James was born on 15 Aug 1914 in Rensselaer, Jasper Co. Ind. Married Jean Smith 21 March 1941. His parents were Eddie Wilburn Hartman & Bertha Thae Cotner.
