Arriving in Vietnam 31 January James was assigned to HMM-362, MAG-15, 1st Marine Air Wing.
James died of multiple injuries to the body when his aircraft collided in midair with another aircraft.
Not married.
Survived by his father and stepmother, James L and Dorothy M Opsahl of Second Street, Britton, South Dakota.

His mother, Winnifred F Opsahl was deceased.
