Funeral Services were conducted Monday at 1:00 p.m. in the Price Third Ward Chapel, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for Mrs. Fern A. Young MARSHALL, 64, well-known Utah teacher, who died Friday at 6:15 a.m. in a Salt Lake City hospital of leukemia.
She was born in Huntington, Emery County, April 15, 1894, the daughter of Frank A. and Karen Matthea Rasmussen YOUNG.
Mrs. MARSHALL was winner of the Utah Teachers' Oscar for 1957, given by the Utah State Federation of Women's Clubs. She went on to place fourth in the national Teachers' Oscar contest. She was first selected by the Price Women's Club, then by the Eastern District of Federated Women's Clubs, then by the state organization. Mrs. MARSHALL was honored this spring when the newly-constructed women's residence hall at Snow College, Ephraim, was named in her honor. It is know as Fern Young Resident Hall.
Mrs. MARSHALL had purchased the property and presented it to the college as a building spot. When World War II intervened with construction plans, she sold the property and turned the proceeds into a permanent scholarship trust fund for women.
She was married to Seth William MARSHALL of Price July 14, 1951.
She taught English and debate at Snow College from 1929 to 1951 and English and debate at Carbon College from 1954 to 1957.
Survivors include her husband, Price; eight brothers and two sisters: Lee E., and Floyd R. YOUNG, Salt Lake City; Melvin L. YOUNG, Price; Ivan W. YOUNG, Provo; George E. YOUNG, Richfield; John A. and Sidney C. YOUNG, Idaho Falls, Idaho; Allen T. YOUNG, Napa, California; Mrs. Delbert TIDWELL, Green River, and Mrs. A. A. ROSSI, Napa, and three step-children.
Burial was in the Ephraim Cemetery under the direction of the Wallace Mortuary.
