|Death: ||Jul. 21, 2006|
On July 21, 2006, two Rocky Mount Police Officers, Corporal Stephen Christopher Hicks and Detective Larry Antill, conducted a vehicle stop on a suspect's vehicle. The suspect, who was a passenger, exited the vehicle. Corporal Hicks, an 11-year veteran with the Rocky Mount Police Department, along with Police K-9 "Danny," pursued the suspect. K-9 "Danny" was deployed to assist in the apprehension. During the arrest, 6-year old German Shepherd Police K-9 "Danny" was shot by the fleeing suspect. Corporal Hicks was not injured, and the suspect was taken into custody. K-9 "Danny," however, suffered fatal wounds.
The Fraternal Order of Police, Rocky Mount Lodge 46 and the Eastern Chapter of the North State Law Enforcement Officer's Association will jointly seek stiffer penalties for persons who harm law enforcement K-9s or any other law enforcement animal. Prayers go out to "Danny" and Corporal Hicks. Some of Danny's ashes hang in a vial on Chris's rear view mirror. Officer Hicks now has a new partner named "Chance".
Note for a special person;
I want to thank Barb (GOD BLESS YOU! BARB IN MISSOURI), from the bottom of my heart for placing a red heart here for Danny. Thank you so much Barb.
