Allen Adkinson

Services for Mr. Allen Adkinson, 85, will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 2011 at Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Randall Johnson. Burial will be at Pollard Cemetery near Converse, LA with military honors. Family will receive friends at Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2011. Allen went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 12, 2011 after a brief battle with cancer. Mr. Adkinson retired as a contractor and served in WWII as a Private First Class and was a long standing member of the VFW Post 7685 and American Legion Post14. Allen enjoyed spending time with family and friends, loved a good game of poker, and spent most of his time outdoors whether he was in his garden, picking pecans, tending to his chickens or his all time favorite hobby of selling watermelons. Allen is preceded in death by his parents, W. J. and Lona Adkinson; wife, Lillie Beth Adkinson; brothers, Lewis Adkinson, Charles Adkinson, Raymond Adkinson, Hubert Adkinson, W. D. Adkinson; sister, Mary Peters; and children, Charles Adkinson, Jimmy Dale Adkinson and daughter-in-law, Brenda Adkinson. Left to cherish his memory are his siblings, Bo Adkinson of Stanley, LA, Jean and Roger Bell of Frierson, LA, Josie and Cecil McCloskey of Frierson, LA, and Jr. Adkinson and wife Virginia of Mansfield, LA. His wonderful children and grandchildren, Carolyn and Russell Heath and children, Tammy Kay Robbins, Randy Heath and wife Elise Jeane-Heath, Kelly Heath, and Christina Heath; Richard and Michele Adkinson and children, Heather Morris, Alesha Singelton, Nicholas Singelton, and Steven Hickman; Eugene Adkinson; David Adkinson and late wife Brenda Adkinson and children, Amanda and Crystal Adkinson; Tanya and Scott Carpenter and children, Scottie and Jeffrey Carpenter and granddaughter, Jennifer Lamb; and Pamela Moss and children Cody Rose and Stoney Rose. Pallbearers will be Jimmie Mack, David Pickerel, Pat Skilling, Colt Skilling, Brandon Musick, and Adam Powell. In memory of Mr. Adkinson, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Willis Knighton Hospice and in lieu of flowers, they may be sent to the donor's choice.
