John served as a Second Lieutenant & Pilot on B-17 #42-31789, 20th Bomber Squadron, 2nd Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.
He resided in Erie County, New York prior to the war.
John was "Killed In Action" when his B-17 was attacked by enemy aircraft, had it's tail blown off, and crashed in the mountains near Neukirchen, Germany during the war. He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
