Sonville Coe, b. March 1842 in Russell County, KY, son of John C. and Millie J. (Boyce) Coe. Beginning in 1860 he appears on the rolls of the Russell County Militia, and last appears on the rolls in 1865. On Aug. 16, 1861, he enlisted with Company G, 3rd Kentucky Infantry, Union Army, at Camp Dick Robinson, for a period of three years. Reporting for duty Oct. 8, 1861, he was wounded at the Battle of Stones River, Dec. 31, 1862, after which he was transferred to the Veteran Reserve Corps. Five feet, seven inches tall, with blue eyes and red hair, he filed for a pension for his military service, July 11, 1890.
He married Jan. 1, 1894, at the John C. Coe residence in Russell Co., KY, Matilda Hicks, b. July 24, 1862, d. May 26, 1934, daughter of Jacob and Betty Hicks.
