Rev. Joseph F. Donovan, 76, a retired Priest of the Archdiocese of Boston living in Falmouth, died Friday, December 30 at the Falmouth Hospital in Falmouth. Born in Stoughton, he was educated in Stoughton Schools. He was a graduate of St. John's Seminary in Brighton and also received his Masters Degree in History at Boston College.
Fr. Donovan, a priest for over 50 years, was the Parochial Vicar at St. Ambrose Church in Dorchester, St. Michael's Church in Avon and was the Pastor of St. Margaret's Church in Brockton for 15 years. He had been retired for the past 5 years.

He was the son of the late Joseph and Ethyl (Meehan) Donovan and the brother of the late Arthur Donovan. He was the cousin of Michael Meehan and his wife Theresa of Townsend.

Fr. Donovan will lie in state at Immaculate Conception Church, 122 Canton St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Wednesday, January 4 from 3-6 PM with prayer services at 3 PM and 5:45 PM. Bishop John Bowles, Auxiliary Bishop, Archdiocese of Boston, will be the principal celebrant of a Funeral Mass Thursday, January 5 at 11 AM at Immaculate Conception. Donations in Fr. Donovan's name may be made to American Heart Assn., 20 Speen St., Framingham, 01701. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton.
