Augustus L. Ross Jr., M.D., 86, of West Alexandria, died Friday, Oct. 7, 2005, at Kettering Medical Center in Kettering. Born May 21, 1919, in Okolona, Ark., he was the son of Augustus L. Sr. and Velma (Killingsworth) Ross. He served in the U.S. Navy for three years. He attended Henderson State Teachers College in Arkadelphia, Ark., the University of Arkansas Medical School in Little Rock, Ark., then served his residency at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton. He practiced medicine in the Village of West Alexandria for 36 years, from 1948 to 1984. Dr. Ross was a member of the American Medical Association, James E. Ryan Post #322 American Legion, a former West Alexandria School Board member, and former chairman of the board of the Twin Valley Bank of West Alexandria. He was a member of St. John Church.

Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Nancy Ross; a son, Gus (Melissa) Ross of West Alexandria; two daughters, Judy (Gary) Gunnoe of Centerville, Ohio, and Jody Wolery of West Chester, Ohio; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Sarah (Henri) Waters of Maryland; a special sister-in-law, Diane (Richard) McCormick of Kettering; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Joan Ross, in 1972; a brother, Dr. James Sloan Ross; and a sister, Louise Robey.

Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, West Alexandria.
