Mr. Bailey served as a sergeant with the A-1-7 1st Battalion Marines during the Korean Conflict. He was awarded the Purple Heart. He also served a second tour of duty in Korea. He was a dairy farmer in Grant Parish. He also worked for Central State Hospital as their dairy supervisor. In 1967, the family moved to Colfax and he was employed by Lutesville Sand and Gravel. Soon the opportunity to work offshore came along. Initially he worked as a roustabout for Chevron Drilling Company. He became a crane operator for Penrod Drilling and Western Oceanic. In 1989, he retired from offshore. He and his wife formed a local trucking company which they operated for several years. He was a member of Colfax Baptist Church for 40 years. He was affiliated with the Purple Heart Club and was serving as president of the Colfax Lion's Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harmon Eugene Bailey and Trenna Alverda Shipley Bailey.
He was survived by his wife of 54 plus years, Marilyn Lee McShane Bailey; his son, Terry Lee Bailey and wife Dewy of Houston, TX; his daughter, Sherri Lynn Humphreys and husband Roger of Acworth, GA; two brothers, Richard Bailey of Denver, CO and Thomas Bailey of Marion, IA; and 5 grandchildren.
