Richard was born in Scotts Bluff, Nebraska. His mother and family moved to the Los Angeles area, to be near family members.
Richard enlisted in the Marines 5 August 1966 and graduated from the San Diego MCRD 6 October 1966.
On 21 January 1967, Richard embarked on board Mer Air, at MCAS, El Toro and arrived at Kadena AFB, Okinawa. On25 January 1967 Richard boarded Gov Air, at Kadena AFB, Okinawa and arrived at
the Danang Airport in Vietnam. Upon arriving in country, he was assigned to Echo Company, 2nd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division. Richard died as a result of a gunshot wound to the chest near Route 561 and 5 kilometers south of Con Thien (Hill 158), during Operation Kingfisher.
He was single and served his country for 1 year,2 months and 21 days and was KIA# 17,373.
Richard had been in Vietnam for 9 months and 5 days and was 19 years, 4 months and 25 days.
Survived by his uncle and aunt, Robert and Vera Ortiz Acevedo of 5141 11th Avenue, Los Angeles, California and his mother; Inez T Acevedo and brother; Michael Acevedo of Los Angeles, California.
His father, Larry Guevara of address unknown.
