Sarah Simms is the Coweta county matriarch of the Simms family and one of the county's early settlers. Sarah was married to Robert Simms III (d. 1815), who served under her father, Capt. John Dickinson, during the Revolutionary War. The family originally came to Georgia from Wayne County, North Carolina around 1788. Many of the Simms and Dickinsons migrated west from Hancock County after ratification of the Treaty of Indian Springs in 1825. The Coweta chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution was named for her until 1957. Children: John Simms; Susan Simms Burch; Elizabeth Simms Askew; Mary Simms Connell; Britton Simms; Sally Simms Tilley; Penelope Simms Turner; and Ann Simms Jones.
