Marvin Goodwin (68786991)

Suggested edit: Marvin Lee Goodwin was the fifth child and the second son to be born to Jacie and Belle Goodwin. Marvin was born October 11, 1914 at the family farm near Manitou, Oklahoma. He and his oldest sister, Crystal, shared the same birth date even though Crystal was nine years older. Marvin attended Manitou schools before becoming a farmer and a dairyman.

Marvin married Lola Mae McAlister March 9, 1935, at the Manitou Methodist Church parsonage.
The ceremony was conducted by Rev. McBride. Lola Mae was born at Eldorado, Oklahoma February 28, 1911. Marvin and Lola Mae were married for 55 years before her death October 3, 1990 .

In addition to farming, Marvin and Lola Mae operated a diary. Marvin was a member of the Oklahoma Milk Producers Association from 1952 to 1970. Milking started every morning at 4:00 a.m. and every afternoon at 3:00 p.m., seven days a week. There was never a holiday in the dairy barn. The cows never took a day off. They required milking twice per day every day.

Marvin and Lola Mae also ran a poultry house. Lola Mae had a license to sell eggs to the local grocery stores. Each egg was hand washed and graded according to state law and put in labeled cartons with Marvin Goodwin, Manitou, Oklahoma stamped on each carton. Like milking, eggs were gathered twice a day, seven days a week.

After Lola Mae's death, Marvin continued to farm and operate the dairy. When he was no longer able to work and needed care, he lived at the English Village Manor home in Altus, Oklahoma. Marvin died there Saturday, March 30, 2002, the evening prior to Easter Sunday, at the age of 87 years. His funeral was held at the Frederick Burkhardt Chapel with the Rev. Virgil Goodwin, his brother and retired minister, officiating.

Marvin and Lola Mae were active members of Manitou's First Baptist Church. Since they had no children, they left their estate to a local children's home.

All of Marvin and Lola Mae's nieces and nephews just loved to go to their farm. There was always so much to see and do. We loved playing on their big porch and they always made us feel welcome.
