Deacon Rochester Lee Hargrove Sr.

Deacon Rochester Lee Hargrove, Sr. was born to Lilly Wilson and the late Earl Holland on February 11, 1937 in Eufaula, Ala. He went home to be with the Lord on June 16, 2012 in Akron, Ohio surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Rochester was a very spiritual man that was loved by everyone that knew him. If there was ever an issue that needed advice, he was always the person to go to because he would always give you the right word. Mr. Hargrove also served as a deacon, in which he was ordained by Oscar Hill in 1970.

Throughout his life Mr. Hargrove worked many jobs, lastly working as a maintenance man for the City of Akron, from which he retired in 2005. He lived his life to the fullest and loved his family and friends dearly.

Preceded in death by his father, Albert Wilson; grandmother, Ella Morton; uncle, Rev. Washington Morton; aunt, Julia March; sister, Dorothy Bickley; niece, Stephanie Witherspoon; nephew, Jeffrey Foshee; and grandson, Anthony Hargrove, Sr.; he leaves to cherish his memories, beloved mother, Lilly Wilson; children, Frederick Hargrove (Pam), Debbie Respress (Hershel), Anthony Hargrove (Mary), Pamela Hargrove, Rochester Hargrove Jr. (Audrey); nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and the mother of his children, Frances Hargrove. He also leaves siblings, Minister Mildred (Deacon Cecil) West, Helen Foshee, Evelyn McKenzie, Raymond Hargrove, and special niece, Renata Payne; and a host of other relatives and friends. The family would also like to give special thanks to Summa Hospice Nurse, Candi Hilton and caregiver, Nicole Edwards.

Service will be held Saturday, June 23, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Hills Temple First Born Church of the Living God, 799 S. Arlington St., Akron, OH 44306, Bishop Langford Floyd officiating. Interment at Lakewood Cemetery. Friends may visit at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service. Procession will form at 268 Memorial Parkway, Akron, OH 44320 and condolences may be sent to 1254 Alphada Ave., Akron, OH 44310.
