Death Announcement,
"Mrs. Christine M. Peterson
(Wife of C. H. Peterson, Deceased)
Born, in Denmark, May 20, 1835
Died, at Greenleaf, Kansas, May 10, 1915
Age 79 Years, 11 Months and 20 days
Funeral Services at the Christian Church, Wednesday at One O'clock
Interment at Maplewood Cemetery."

Family History, retold by Sylvia Paulson Smith, July 1991, and transcribed by Ellen Paulson Doty:
"There is an interesting story about Uncle Lewis, the oldest son of Grandfather and Grandmother Peterson. On their tombstones, in Maplewood Cemetery, Lewis changed their birthdates because Christina Peterson was born in 1835 and was older than her husband, who was born in 1838. Lewis did not think that it was proper for a wife to be older than her husband, so he changed the dates, giving Christina the date May 20, 1938 and Christopher April 21, 1835.

Also, it was Lewis who placed the "GAR - Grand Army of the Republic" Star emblem (from the American Civil War) by the tombstone to give his father honor and prestige. However, the Civil War ended in 1865, seven years before the family came to America in 1872. Christopher probably did serve in the Danish army in 1864, during the war with Germany, but that had nothing to do with the United States Civil War."
