Joseph was born in Muskingum Co., Ohio, the oldest son of Alexander and Lettisha McKinney. He was baptized in the Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church in New Concord, Ohio, in 1839. He was married to Mary Gould, and they had seven children: George Mezina b 1849; Alexander Celine b June 1853; Anna C. b June 1853 (twins); James Daniel b Oct. 13, 1854; Jennie Letetia b 1857; Melissa Allene b abt Jan. 1860; and Joseph O. b abt June 1865. In 1870 he purchased land east of Hillsdale.

JOSEPH McKINNEY, of Marysville township, died at the Osawatomie asylum last Wednesday night. Mr. McKinney was an old and respected resident of the county and leaves a family of a wife and grown daughters and sons to mourn his death. He will be buried in the Hillsdale cemetery to-day.
