William Grubb was a Brandywine Hundred farmer and also a large landowner in Pennsylvania and Virginia. William and Lydia were Quakers, active in the Chichester Meeting. They lived near the Grubb Burying Ground in a house that still stands (and was once called "the ugliest house in America"!). They had ten children, and three also lie in the family burying ground William referred to as "in a corner of my garden."
