Pension Papers:
Abigail Smith married Nathaniel Finch May 7, 1808. He died Aug. 10, 1829. In 1831, she applies for Surgeon Isaac Smiths' Revolutionary Pension which she receives. Abigail dies Aug. 5, 1842 according to Permelia Ferris, Mary Marshall and Elizabeth Anderson who are applying for benefits as heirs (only surviving children).
"Abstracts of Fairfield Probate Records", compiled by Spencer P. Mead provides the following summary for Abigail's estate:
"Finch, Abigail, late of Greenwich, will date Dec. 28, 1840, probated Sept. 9, 1842, mentioned her daughter Elizabeth Anderson, widow of James P. Anderson, son Edwin Smith, daughter Parmelia Ferris, widow of Nathaniel Ferris; granddaughter Lucinda Palmer, a daughter of my daughter Ruth Palmer, daughter Polly, wife of Sylvanus Marshall of Stamford, and granddaughter Amanda Anderson.
Executor: Samuel Close of Greenwich.
Witnesses John S. Hustis, D. Jerome Sands, and James Peck, page 169. Probate contested, page 169. Sept. 17, 1842, order to advertise for claims, page 171. Appeal taken from probate by Sylvanus Marshall and Polly Marshall, his wife, a daughter of testatrix, pages 171 and 215. Feb. 13, 1843, Samuel Close of Greenwich, executor, resigned, and Arza Marshal of Stamford appointed in his place, page 275. Feb. 9, 1844, inventory filed, page 275."
"Michael Waring (Jonathan's father) came from Long Island in 1717 and purchased on Long Ridge. The family became quite numerous. I suppose all the Long Ridge Warings came from him and that he was grandfather of Abigail Waring our grandmother."
