BANCROFT Cora Lester Barfuss, 87, of Bancroft, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2002, at home. Mrs. Barfuss was born March 2, 1914, at Hilliard, Wyoming, the daughter of William P. and Alice Hutchinson Lester. She was the second of 14 children.

She was married to Oliver F. Barfuss on January 28, 1937, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple.

She was raised and educated in Hilliard, Wyo., schools, and had lived the past 65 years in Bancroft. She was a member of the Bancroft LDS First Ward, she had served as ward librarian for 40 years, and had served an LDS mission to the central states. She had served as 4-H leader and had been very active as a Boy Scout leader, and had helped many boys earn their Eagle Scout Award. She was awarded the Silver Beaver. She enjoyed working in her yard, crocheting, and had made over 200 afghans.

Mrs. Barfuss is survived by her husband, Oliver, of Bancroft; two sons and four daughters and their spouses, Lester O. and Roene Barfuss, Von L. Barfuss of Bancroft, Isabel and Roger Griffeth, Franklin, Idaho, Coreen and Bruce Alder of Preston, Idaho, LaRene and Bob Grover, Rea and Terry Bell, all of Pocatello; 30 grandchildren and 65 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers and one sister, William Lester, Riverton, Wyo., Orval Lester, Bancroft and Gladys Delbridge of Bancroft. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Kim L. Barfuss, and one daughter, Jan Schmidt, also three sisters, Nora Grundvig, Zella Lester and Alice Mylroie.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, March 1, 2002, at noon at the Bancroft LDS Chapel. Friends may call at the Sims Funeral Home on Thursday evening, February 28, 2002, from 7 to 8 p.m., and on Friday at the Bancroft chapel from 10:30 until 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Bancroft Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the Sims Funeral Home.
