Souter, George H. Enlisted in compamy K, First Infantry, April 18, 1861 at Adrian, for 3 months, age 19. Mustered May 1, 1861, mustered out at Detroit, Mich., Aug 7, 1861.

July 18, 1884 issue of the Holland City news:
Jotting
"Mr. George H. Souter will furnish families with fresh Kalamazoo celery on Saturdays, Tuesdays and Thursdays during the season. Parties desiring it can leave an order at the express office or at the meat marker of DeKraker & Camp; Or it will be delivered at your homes. Mr. Souter has made special arrangements which will enable him to sell celery at reasonable figures and gives all a chance to procuring it fresh three times a week."

George Harley Souter

George Harley Souter was born in Wingfield Parish, Suffock county, England 1839 and in his twelfth year, came to Canada with his parents, Thomas and Mary Souter and their family of ten children.

In 1862 Mr Souter married Miss Jennie Petteram in Canada, a year later moving to Michigan and for a short time living near kalamazoo, then coming to Holland where he has since resided.

The deceased leaves a family of six children, three others having preceded him, the living are Mrs Joseph Kardux, Mrs Leonard Kardau, Mrs W. J. Dick, Mr Thomas E. Souter, all of Holland, Mrs Peter Howe, Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs George H. Souter, Holloway, Canada; Mrs Fred Souter, Kiova, Col., Mr Alfred E. Souter, Shelby, Mich.; Mr William E. Souter, Jarvis, Cana.; Mrs A. J. Elmer, Buffalo, N.Y.; Mrs A. J. Cutis, Glen Meyer, Canada.

Children not located:

Erie May Souter: 1871-1951-Los Angles, CA
Maude Souter: 1877-1938

NOTICE the change in spelling of the last name from his father to son. Some family members maintained the Sowter spelling. Changed for unknown reasons.
