Robert Jones Belue was the son of Robert Jones Belue, Sr. and Sallie Belue. He attended South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind (Cedar Springs School) from 1886-1897 where he first learned to play the piano. A few years later, he moved to Boston and studied music at Carl Faelten's Music School. He briefly had a career as a concert pianist until he was diagnosed with chronic neuritis, which brought his career to an end. He and his wife Effie opened an ran a music store in Boston for over 30 years. After her death, he returned to SC, after being away for over 50 years, in order to be closer to family.
