Served in the Civil War with Co. H, 20th Indiana Infantry. He received a gunshot wound which resulted in a compound fracture of the left tibia on 2 JUL 1863 in his regiment's fight in ROSE's Woods with the 3rd Arkansas Infantry. His leg was amputated. Pyemia of the stump developed and he died of the infection at Letterman Hospital, Gettysburg, PA. He was originally buried in that hospital's cemetery, Section 7, Grave #24. He was later reinterred in the National Cemetery at Gettysburg. He resided in Sommersett, IN.

At the time of his enlistment, Harrison resided in Warren Township, Clinton County, Indiana, near the village of Middlefork. He migrated to Indiana from Somerset County, Pennsylvania.
