Leona Crawford Balen, age 100, passed away September 27, 2016 at the Beehive Home in St. George, UT. She was born April 17, 1916 in Enterprise, UT to George Edward and Rhoda Duella Root Elliker Crawford. She was raised in Enterprise and was active in High School athletics. She met the love of her life at the Saturday Night Veyo Pool dance. She and Mark Balen were married in 1936. This marriage was later solemnized in the St. George LDS temple. They lived in Enterprise and raised their family there until they moved to Las Vegas in 1965.
She worked at Vegas Village for thirteen years and became an avid bowler, winning many trophies in a family bowling league. In 1977 she and Mark moved back to Enterprise where they enjoyed their retirement fishing, gardening and enjoying their family. Mark passed away in December 1986.
Leona is survived by her children: Ed (Joann) Balen, Veyo, UT, Mark (Merry) Balen, Las Vegas, NV, Gail (Doyle) Sandberg, Washington, UT, Tony (Judy) Balen, Las Vegas, NV, Linda (Michael) Hughes, Cave Junction, OR; fourteen grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by husband Mark; son George Lewis; daughter Donna Rae Gehrig; grandson William Shay Sandberg; three brothers, George, John and Orin Crawford; and three sisters, Ida Wade, Hertha Leavitt, and Pheby Dahl.
Funeral services will be Friday, September 30th at 11: 00 a.m. in the Enterprise Stake Center, 80 S. Center, Enterprise, UT. Friends may call 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., prior to services in the Stake Center. Interment will be in the Enterprise Cemetery, Enterprise, UT.
