Enrolled 29 April 1861 at Winchester, Franklin County, Tennessee. Discharged 12 August 1861 at Camp Jones near Manassas, Virginia for disability.
Andrew Jackson Smith's slaves were loyal to him during the war and continued to work his farm. In gratitude, William, in his will, deeded a large portion of the farm to them. Some of their descendants still live at the on that land.

Go west on Highway 110 to Old Carmargo Road, turn right then follow the road until you
come to Sandlin Road . Turn right again and go to the end of the road - the cemetery is on the right.
The cemetery grounds need a lot of work. There are many unmarked graves. Some of the stones are knocked over and some broken.
