Kenneth C. Ochs, 77, of Pinewood Avenue, Lititz, formerly of Princess Anne Drive, died Sunday at home after a long illness.
Ochs worked for Lancaster City Police Department for 25 years. He retired as a lieutenant in 1976. His career included service in the detective division and as platoon commander before he was placed in command of the traffic section in 1972.
His career citations include several for apprehension of burglars, lifesaving, training and traffic administration.
After retirement, he was a bailiff at Lancaster County Courthouse for several years and was the director of security and safety at the former St. Joseph Hospital.
A U.S. Navy veteran, he served as a torpedo mate 3rd class during World War II and belonged to Sub Vets of World War II
He was a graduate of McCaskey High School.
Ochs was a life member of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.
He was a past president of Red Rose Lodge 16, Fraternal Order of Police.
He was a member of Lancaster Elks 134 and a former member of Commercial Travelers Association.
Ochs enjoyed golfing and fishing.
Born in Mount Joy, he was the son of the late Harry J. and Lillian Weidman Ochs.
He was married 56 years on Feb. 9 to June A. Skiles Ochs.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Diana L., married to Rick Flory, and Denise O., married to Foster Ed White Jr., both of Lititz; four grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John E.; and two sisters, Betty Shank and Nancy McMuellen.
