Funeral Rites Will Be Today For Dr. Potts
Funeral services for Dr. Robert M. Potts, 80, of Fort Mill, S.C., who died yesterday morning in a Charlotte hospital after several months' illness, will be held this afternoon at 3 o'clock at Pleasant Hill Methodist Church in Lancaster County, S.C.
The Rev. J.E. Gunter, pastor of the church will officiate assisted by Dr. J.T . Dandy of Rock Hill, S.C. and Rev. W. Ted Smith of Charlotte. Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery near Rock Hill.
Dr. Potts, who was born in Lancaster County September 16, 1871, had lived in the Pleasant Valley section of that county most of his life. He attended Carolina Academy at Huntersville and Davidson College, and in 1896 he received his medical degree from the University of Maryland.
Went to Rock Hill
After his graduation, Dr. Potts practiced medicine in Rock Hill for some time and later returned to Pleasant Valley, where he continued his practice until his retirement several years ago. He was an active member and an honorary steward of Pleasant Valley Methodist Church. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World and the Masonic order.
Surviving Dr. Potts are his wife, the former Miss Rosa Jane Barnett of York County; two daughters, Miss Rosa Potts of the home and Mrs. Roger F. Barr of Chandler, Ariz.; and four sons, James B. Potts of Rock Hill, William C. Potts of Pleasant Valley, Richard L. Potts of Springfield, Ohio, and Robert M. Potts Jr. and Heath Potts of the home.
