CONRAD NEAR I was born in Germany. Many of the Near (also spelled Neher, Nehr, Neahr, Nare, Nhare, Nier & Neer) family came to the United States.

Conrad and Anna Eva Empie were married before 1773 in the Stone Arabia Church, Dutch Reformed Church.

Several from the family went to Canada before the war because they were loyal to the English, (Loyalists or Tories).

However several fought in the Revolutionary War. Conrad was one of those that fought for our freedom, and he died during the Revolutionary War at the Battle of the Mohawk River, in Klock's Field, Herkimer County, New York. This battle took place on Saturday, October 21, 1780. He was buried in a mass grave in Klock's field.

He and Anna had one son: Conrad Near II who married Anna Nancy Fox. They are believed to buried in the Hamburg cemetery in Livingston County, Michigan. See their information also on Find a Grave.
