The Pine Plains Register, Friday, July 17, 1903
An event of unusual interest occurred a few days ago at Herkimer, NY. A wedding and a funeral combined were the features that gave novelty to this event. Miss Amelia Burt, 81 years old, and her bachelor brother, Capt. William Burt, 71 years old, lived together for years in the village. With them lived Miss Ruth Bly, who is 60. She did the housework and attended Miss Burt, an invalid. Miss Burt died, and when the neighbors were all assembled for the funeral Capt. Burt announced that before the services began there would be a marriage, that of Miss Bly and himself. He further stated that he and Miss Bly had decided to be married in order that they might continue the household. This arrangement was carried out, and after a few minutes spent in congratulations the funeral proceeded.

His sister, Amelia J. Burt lived with him in the 1880 and 1900 census
