~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Margery Hamilton was born in Westville, Nova Scotia, Canada. June 19, 1861.
She came to the United States in 1879. She was married to Charles Augustus Gorman on November 12, 1884 in Providence by Rhode Island Pastor James C. Walsh.
Margery and Charles made their home in Providence Rhode Island, she later moved to Cranston, Rhode Island after Charles' death in 1911.
Margery and Charles had a total of 11 children during their marriage. Seven that lived to adulthood. The other four died before their first birthdays. Daughter Margory died at 10 months, Baby Girl died a month after birth. No record of the little girl's name. Two other children sex unknown at this time were born sometime between 1901 and 1910. The 1900 Census showed there being 9 children born to Margery and Charles, 7 which survived. The 1910 Census records show there were 11 children, 7 which survived. So, I know there were other children not named and born sometime after the turn of the century. The 7 children that grew into adulthood were Richard, Nellie, Jennie, Charlie, Mame, Eddie and Jessie.
Margery was the grandmother of Harold, Leonard, Marjorie, and Raymond McCarthy, Margarette Gorman, and Virginia, Marion, Dorothy and Jeanne Preston.
Margery did work at a young age keeping house for a family, then becoming a homemaker in her own home raising all her children.
Attending physician at death James Henry, undertaker James V. Croften. Cause of death cancer of the pancreas.
When I first started looking for information on Margery, I had an old picture with her name listed Marjorie McDonald and Nova Scotia on the back. I was told by my mom the spelling should have been MacDonald. That's all I had. I owe a great big thank you to Barbara Carroll, she was a genealogist I hired to help in my search. Barbara found more than I was able to due to her experience and living in Rhode Island. She was such a help and so very nice to work with. Thank you Barbara.
With Barbara's help, I've found the information above, there is still a lot I need to find out, and some things may never be uncovered, but I'm a lot more educated now than I was when I first posted this memorial with little more than a marriage date and a name that has changed from Marjorie, to Margie, to Margery, to Margory, and Margene. I've got more answers than my mom ever did and someday I hope to visit Margery's home in Nova Scotia. My next adventure in locating Charles and Margery will be to see if I can locate the grave. Barbara did find out that they are buried in Mount Saint Mary's, however a fire destroyed the cemetery records years ago, so that may never happen. If there is a stone though, I'll find them one day.
