CARL MARKHAM SUCCUMBS IN HOME AT 70

SPANISH FORK--Carlos Albert "Carl" Markham, 70, died at his home here Monday evening following a long illness. He was a native of this area.

Mr. Markham was born at Leland, Utah June 23, 1886, the son of Stephen and Sarah Ann Lloyd Markham . He grew to manhood in this area and received his education in local schools.

As a youth he assisted his father in the operation of the family farm and in livestock raising. Later he went to Mammoth and Eureka, where he worked in the mines for a few years. Following this period of his life, he was employed in Salt Lake City as a foreman for the Al Harris Dairy Company in Salt Lake for 11 years, Also during the early part of his lifetime, he was an employee of the Utah Construction Company, for which he worked on such projects as the Red Buttes Dam in Utah and on various projects in Colorado. He was a member of the LDS Church, holding a rank of Elder.

Mr. Markham was married to Grace Powell in Salt Lake City on June 21, 1925. They lived in Salt Lake until a few years ago when they moved to Spanish Fork, having made their home here until the present time.

He is survived by his widow and one brother, Thomas Markham, of Salt Lake City. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m, in the Palmyra Stake House with Bishop Vernon Hurst of the Second Ward officiating. Friends may call at the Anderson Mortuary in Spanish Fork Thursday between 7 and 9 p.m. or Friday prior to services. Interment will be in the Spanish Fork City Cemetery.
