Captain Jacob John Odell is a military veteran of the Revolutionary War. He saw service with the Colonel John Abbot's Regiment of Foot Militia of State of Vermont.

Augustine Odell Sr. (d.1785) and Elizabeth Galusha Odell of Beekman Township, Dutchess County, New York Colony and State.

Jacob was married twice, first marriage in 1761 to Mary Millington (d. 1785); then in 1786 married Rebbeca Erbs (d. 1811).

Jacob was born the third eldest child of parents Augustine Odell Sr. (d.1785) and Elizabeth Galusha Odell of Beekman Township, Dutchess County, New York Colony and State.
